Supervision and Mentoring to Assist You in Becoming a Registered BAS Agent

Once you have achieved your Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and have some professional work experience, most bookkeepers want to continue their development and become a registered BAS Agent. You can embark on this journey towards being a registered agent as soon as you have your first client.

This allows you to offer your clients the full suite of BAS services, provided under supervision.

Currently, the Tax Practitioners Board requires you to have 1400 hours of supervision, or 1000 hours if you are a member of a recognised association such as the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

In working with you towards your BAS registration, I hope to instil in you the confidence to look after your own clients, and to guide you towards being an excellent and professional bookkeeper BAS agent. I will work with you to assist your learning in any areas you need to boost your knowledge, and provide feedback on your systems, processes and professionalism. We will have a formal agreement signed by both parties, outlining the supervision arrangement. As soon as you have reached your 1000-1400 hours of required supervised BAS service related work, we can lodge your application to the TPB and get you on your way!

In order to embark on a supervision plan geared towards your BAS agent registration, you must already have your own clients or be employed as a bookkeeper. Please note, a supervision program is not a work experience program.

You can start coaching and mentoring sessions any time–it can be beneficial to do some professional development before you get any clients, to prepare you for being a confident professional.

As a new aspiring bookkeeper, fresh out of study I felt overwhelmed and daunted by the huge gap of knowledge from the theory to the practical side of bookkeeping.

Jo has been one of the greatest gifts in my business and personal life.  Her wealth of knowledge in both practical bookkeeping application and her deep understanding of business operations enabled her to teach me a unique and practical perspective to organise my bookkeeping needs in the most efficient way possible.

Her extensive knowledge in all the requirements of the bookkeeping industry enabled me to ensure that I was meeting the highest standards within the Industry.

As a business coach she is exceptionally intuitive and understanding and will guide you to your highest potential without pushing her own agenda or leading you in a direction that doesn’t resonate with you.

I personally could not recommend her services enough!

Jo was a wonderful support to me on my journey to becoming a registered BAS Agent. As my supervisor and mentor, she provided endless encouragement during the time we worked together. Her in-depth knowledge helped increase my capability as a bookkeeper, particularly in the area of payroll. I am thankful for her commitment to me and highly recommend her as a mentor.

I first met Jo after completing my Cert IV in Bookkeeping. I have been fortunate to have her as my mentor for the last two years, guiding me through the challenges of starting my own bookkeeping business.

I learnt MYOB during my course, but after taking a good look at Xero accounting software, I quickly realised it would be an invaluable tool in my business, as I could provide clients with simple, online, tailored, bookkeeping systems which could streamline their processes and improve many areas of their business. Jo is incredibly knowledgeable in Xero and has helped me become proficient with it. She is my number 1 ‘go to’ person for all things Xero.

Jo has assisted me in every aspect of setting up my business: what to charge clients, targeted marketing of my services, establishing a website, logo, business cards etc, so that the foundations are in place to support business growth. I would have been lost without her guidance and advice. She has many of areas of expertise, including bookkeeping, software, and even counselling, all of which she draws on during our sessions. I always leave our sessions feeling empowered, and excited about the next area I will focus on. I could not recommend her highly enough to anyone starting out in the bookkeeping industry or needing to update their software skills.
